Transcript from Episode 10 of the ‘It Is What It Is’ Podcast with Mase & Camron

In a recent episode of the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast, hosts Mase and Camron had the privilege of sitting down with NBA superstar Damian Lillard for an exclusive interview. During this candid conversation, Lillard shared his unwavering belief in his abilities and opened up about comparisons to the legendary Stephen Curry. Here’s a glimpse into their thought-provoking exchange:

Mase: You think Steph is better than you?

Damian Lillard: (Confidently) “I don’t think nobody’s better than me, like when I, I don’t think nobody’s better than me when I  get on the court, that’s probably my my greatest strength is I believe what I believe and that’s that’s what it is but”

Camron: (Nodding) You think you’re the best point guard in the NBA right now?

Damian Lillard: (Confidently) “Yeah”

Lillard’s response is a testament to his competitive spirit and self-confidence. He doesn’t just see himself as a top player; he firmly believes that he is the best when he’s on the hardwood.

The question of who is the better player between Damian Lillard and Stephen Curry remains a topic of debate among fans and pundits, here is what Twitter had to say:

Lillard’s dedication, work ethic, and unshakable self-belief have earned him respect throughout the league. His remarkable performances, often referred to as “Dame Time” moments, have solidified his place among the NBA’s elite point guards, but unfortunately, he’s still no Steph Curry!

NBA veteran Isaiah Thomas created controversy during the NBA Summer League broadcast between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors by fat-shaming Denver Nuggets Finals MVP Nikola Jokic. Thomas referred to Jokic as “whale meat” and a “hippo,” sparking a heated debate among basketball fans.

Fat-Shaming Comments

Isaiah Thomas’s disparaging statements towards Nikola Jokic during the broadcast have sparked significant outrage. It is not only insulting to refer to an athlete’s physical appearance in such a negative manner, but it also fosters detrimental stereotypes. Fat-shaming has no place in athletics or in life.

Jokic’s Second Round Draft Pick Status

Jokic’s status as a second-round draft pick may have contributed to the conversation that led to Thomas’ fat-shaming remarks. Jokic’s rise from 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft to Finals MVP for the Denver Nuggets demonstrates his outstanding talent and hard commitment. It is critical to recognize and honour athletes’ accomplishments regardless of draft position.

Thomas’s Personal Encounter with Jokic

Thomas recalled a close meeting with Jokic during a game, which he witnessed with Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia. This experience appeared to have influenced Thomas’ impression of Jokic’s physique. It is crucial to note that athletes’ physical features vary, and success in basketball is not primarily driven by physical attributes.

Comparison to Shaq

Thomas compared Jokic to the famous Shaquille O’Neal, who was noted for his chiselled figure. While the comparison was made in fun, it is important to realize that basketball talent comes in many forms. Jokic’s distinct skill set and style of play have gained him the respect and adoration of fans and teammates alike.

Jokic’s Excellent Conditioning:

Despite the dispute, it is critical to recognize Jokic’s exceptional conditioning. His ability to dominate the floor for extended periods of time and lead the Denver Nuggets to the NBA Finals demonstrates his physical fitness and basketball abilities. Jokic’s mobility, basketball IQ, and versatility are evident in his play, demonstrating his dedication to staying in shape.

Twitter Backlash and Calls for Thomas’s Firing

Twitter users, predictably, reacted quickly to Thomas’s fat-shaming remarks, expressing disgust and advocating for his ouster as an analyst. The unfavourable reaction emphasizes the importance of responsible and respectful sports media criticism. Public personalities must answer for their words and deeds, especially when they contribute to destructive myths.

The youthful and talented basketball player Victor Wembanyama gave a spectacular performance in his second NBA Summer League game that astounded observers and fans alike. Wembanyama’s individual performance demonstrated his enormous potential and prompted comparisons to the famous Kevin Durant, even though the San Antonio Spurs ultimately lost the game. Let’s examine his outstanding performance in more detail.

Wembanyama recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 for 4 shooting from beyond the arc to conclude the game with an amazing stat line. These stats demonstrate his adaptability and skill set, emphasizing his capacity to have an effect on the game on both sides of the court.

Wembanyama went on a scoring binge in the second quarter, scoring nine straight points. He appeared to establish his groove and become more at ease on the court throughout this span. His offensive prowess and self-assurance were on full display, evoking Kevin Durant’s scoring brilliance.

Wembanyama’s and-1 putback, which was accompanied by an emotional flex on his opponent, was one particular move that stuck out. His agility, ability to rebound, competitive spirit, and drive to succeed were all on display at this time. The drive and passion Wembanyama brings to the game were seen in his passionate outburst.

Wembanyama made up for his lower block totals in this specific game by showing improved scoring instincts and better shot choices. This change had a stronger influence on the attacking side and raised the field goal percentage. His potential as a multifaceted player is cemented by his capacity to adapt and contribute in many ways.

Wembanyama needs to work in one area, though, and that is his conditioning. He only played for five minutes before being replaced, showing that he still has to work on improving his stamina and endurance. It is anticipated that he will continue to improve in this area and get through this obstacle in due time given his age and the fact that this is the Summer League.

Wembanyama showed signs of his potential in his first contest by scoring nine points on 2-of-13 shooting, adding eight rebounds, five blocked shots, and three assists. Despite having trouble hitting his shots in the game, he showed off his defensive skills and capacity to make a contribution in many different areas of the game.

Wembanyama’s performances are still exciting and intriguing as he moves through the Summer League. He has been compared to seasoned NBA stalwarts like Kevin Durant because to his exceptional skills and towering height and length. While it is too soon to draw firm conclusions, his early performances suggest that he has what it takes to rise to the top of the league.

Jordan Poole basked in an accomplishment that seemed to last forever as he celebrated winning the NBA championship. However, a regrettable altercation with one of the most admired members of his squad rocked his life. Everything for Poole changed at that very moment, leaving him feeling hopeless and uncertain.

The Turning Point

Despite efforts to downplay the situation, the rift between Poole and Green left behind irreversible wounds that couldn’t be healed. In the end, the Golden State Warriors’ front office sided with Green, favouring his outstanding defence and leadership qualities above Poole’s bright future. As a result, Poole was acquired by the Washington Wizards on June 23 in a historic trade that sent Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors.

The Chosen One

When Stephen Curry’s legendary NBA career comes to an end, Poole was hailed as the one to succeed him as the chosen one. Sadly, the Warriors’ leadership had a different outlook. Certainly not what Poole had anticipated was the sudden surroundings shift and the trade to the Wizards. Even a cursory look at photos and videos of him from this time period reveals a glaring discrepancy between his ostensible joy and his obviously melancholy demeanour.

A Disappointing Destination

It could be easy to feel unfairly treated after being dealt to the Washington Wizards. Thanks to Bradley Beal, the team has remained in a position of mediocrity, not quite a playoff contender but also not slipping to the level of a lottery team. Poole’s morale has obviously been affected by his forced departure from the Warriors and subsequent arrival of a squad that is still finding its feet.

The Weight of Change

Poole has always been known for his outgoing personality, which has been immortalized in numerous memes. The Wizards’ social media account just shared a new video that shows a different side of him. He seems to have lost all vitality because of the pressure of becoming a Washington Wizard and the sense of injustice he experienced as a result of the Draymond Green incident. The film shows occasions when Poole’s reactions lack delight, which raises questions about his mental health.

Misinterpretation and Twitter Jokes:

Regrettably, social media has a penchant for exaggerating incidents and distorting perceptions. On Twitter, there is a recurring joke that Poole’s faces, which appear serious, are actually signs of despair during his stay in Washington. It is important to keep in mind, though, that these moments can just be awkwardly timed, unamused photographs. There are images of Poole smiling, but these happy times are rarely shared or given any attention on the platform.

Jalen Green’s social media mishap is receiving attention for all the wrong reasons. Several videos have surfaced that appear to show the Houston Rockets’ rising star dry-humping his teammate Josh Christopher in inappropriate behaviour. A second video emerged showing Green dry-humping another person while being restrained, adding to the scandal. Josh Christopher, a lesser-known player in this position who is no longer with the Rockets, may receive less criticism.

The Memphis franchise recently acquired Josh Christopher, a potential role player and the 2021 first-round pick. The Rockets completed a big sign-and-trade agreement with forward Dillon Brooks, which included his transfer to Houston. Green had a strong season, averaging 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

Camron & Mase also chimed in on the topic, naming Green the ‘Pause King’

Because this incident occurred during the offseason, it is predicted that the media hype surrounding the video will fade once the season begins. It may recur from time to time as a result of online trolls, but Green is expected to overcome this predicament.

However, it appears that the trade conversation has begun to wear thin. Harris was recently asked about his feelings about being traded from Philadelphia in a recent interview. Let’s just say he wasn’t overjoyed with the prospect of starting over somewhere else.
